As someone brand new to motorsport fabrication, I can appreciate all the information shared in this course. Just looking at the list of tool requirements is somewhat overwhelming. For others like myself, can you recommend a specific type/brand of welder you used and where to purchase it. Are there "welding kits" you would recommend for someone interested in exhaust and framework fabrication?

No specific recommendations, there are a LOT or reviews of machines on YT, but I would suggest you have a good think about exactly what you're going to be expecting to do - materials and gauge (thickness) - add a little to the last because you'll be frustrated if something is a 'little' bit too much for the welder.

Check the machine uses standard consumables, cables, etc. You don't want to be stuck with a handpiece you don't like.

Check you have a dealer nearby/warranty terms in case of issues.

As you're in the USoA, check it is 110-220V if you don't have the latter yet.

Don't forget a GOOD mask/shield - some like different styles, so consider that. Some have unique outer lense covers that can get expensive, especially if you haven't developed the habit of looking after them and leave them shield down. I'd suggest picking up a replacement pack, regardless, as there is a big difference between scratches you can barely see and a clear one when welding - you may also want to pick up some cleaning pads, if applicable.

Don't forget a pair of TIG gloves, they're thinner and make feeding the filler much easier - although I have used heavy gauntlets before (more a stick/MIG welding person, back in the day), they're clumsy as heck.

Give some thought to what you'll be welding and what gas mix you'll use, same with the filler rods - material and diameter. If you're expecting to weld SS exhaust tubing, pick up a second regulator and hose for purging.

If there are things you're not sure of, talk to the guys in the shop - any decent retailer will want to see you right so they get the return business.
