Hi,

Just wanted to post my first attempt and TIG welding (butt weld) 2 pieces of 5mm Mild steel plate together.

I think it came out decent. I went next to one of the welds twice more, which is why its fatter, and then welded along the top and bottom edge, just because...

Just got this welder about a week or so ago, really happy with it, but i'm so green I don't have anything to compare it to, never had a TIG before.

Last week when I got the welder, I tried on some stainless that was on the bench, just welding up and down on the flat, without filler, and then tried with some filler. Not great, but was silly to try stainless first. But I could see the impact the amperage was having, and the oxidised dags on the other side. Really interesting stuff. I then got the TIG course and watched that over the Easter weekend, and then attempted this mild steel last night.

So much practice is needed, but looking forward to it.
