Hi,

What should you set the Max amperage to when using a pedal? say I am doing 2mm stainless, and so apply the 40A per mm, so 80A for this - does the amperage on the welder get set to 80A or should it be higher and only do partial pedal?

I'm finding it hard to know what to look for when you have too much amps or not enough, when using the pedal.

Thanks

I don't recall using a pedal, but I understand one sets it to the maximum value one will use, in this case 80A - this means you cannot use too high a current, and can simply taper off at the end of the weld, or if you're running a bit hot.

Anyone?

The pedal is a great tool for stainless and the more you use it the easier it becomes. When I first started using the pedal I found it very awkward, it helps to set the max amperage over the required amount to give you some headroom when welding, this allows you to get the molten pool happening immediately and you can then taper off to a relaxed travel speed. I actually set my machine at 150amps when welding really thin materials and then control the pedal once I have a weld pool going.

Its common for experienced welders to have the machine set at 200amps and leave it there for all foot pedal situations. If I was you I would start with setting it at 100amps and try it for a bit, then maybe ramp it up and focus on controlling the amperage with your foot.

Great, thank you

No problems James and all the best with it.
